Friends of Goochland
There are many developments happening or projected to happen in Goochland with a wide range of opinions on each. For more information, please see these resources:
Block Valley Link
Valley Link Transmission, a joint venture led by Dominion Energy, is pushing forward with plans for a massive 115-mile, 765 kV high-voltage power line cutting through the heart of Central Virginia—from Campbell County to Culpeper County. This infrastructure is primarily designed to feed the skyrocketing energy demands of data centers in Northern Virginia, prioritizing corporate profits over local livelihoods. Proposed routes would run through Goochland's District 1 in the western portion of the county.
Right now, they’re aggressively pursuing eminent domain to seize control of private land, erecting towering 160-foot structures along a 200-foot-wide right-of-way that would bulldoze forests, farms, and everything in its path. These ultra-high-voltage lines carry the capacity equivalent to six standard 345 kV lines, far exceeding what’s common in populated areas like ours.

Goochland's Technology Overlay District (TOD) and Technology Zone (TZ)
In November 2025, Goochland's Board of Supervisors voted to implement major changes to its Technology Overlay District (TOD) and Technology Zone (TZ) in Districts 4 and 5, the easternmost districts. The changes have been the subject of much controversy with residents across the county expressing opposition both before and after the changes.

Grinchland County
Inspired by Dr. Seuss, here is a Fictitious Parody, Offered to fellow Residents of Goochland County:
“GRINCHLAND COUNTY FORMALLY OPPOSES THE PROPOSED ‘TEMPORARY OVERSIGHT DISTRICT’ (TOD) MEANT TO ATTRACT HYPER-SCALE (AI) DATA CENTERS”
by Rev. Lisa K. Sykes
A Parody Resolution for Satirical Purposes ONLY; it employs the style and characters of Dr. Seuss, the well-known children’s author. However, this poem is not intended for children, and any resemblance to reality is merely coincidental, but hopefully instructive.
WHEREAS, the Councilmen of Grinchland County,
charged with administering human laws and natural bounty,
once rumored in local folklore to have “hearts three times too small”
when it came to residents living in the direction of sunrise, one and all,
have experienced a much-needed, miraculous, marvelous change-of-heart,
restoring equal regard for residents living in the county, each and every part!
WHEREAS, since approving TOD outlines in bright red marker –
the contrast between residential and industrial could not be starker.
On the Grinchland map, a big “BUILD IT HERE” stamp appeared in the east,
which made sunrise residents complain, to say the very least!
Yet, in this fictional rhyme, the Council finally began wondering
“Why are the sunrise folks so angrily grumbling?”
